Herd & Motorpoint: Driving unprecedented paid search success by solving the brand incrementality challenge

Our project for Motorpoint, the UK’s largest nearly new car dealership, saw us delve into an automotive industry facing significant challenges following the pandemic. There was a dampened demand due to the impact of inflation on consumer spending, as well as supply chain disruptions.

Amidst this uncertainty and a saturated competitive landscape online, we were tasked with finding incremental growth by increasing high-quality leads, efficiency, and profitability, through paid search.

Over a six-month period, we significantly outperformed our original objectives and far exceeded client expectations. We delivered a 25% uplift in overall campaign leads through paid search, reduced the cost per lead (CPL) by 17%, and improved click-through rates (CTR) by more than 11%.

Another highlight we’re immensely proud of was the implementation of Parity®. This is a custom technology developed by Herd that simultaneously monitors brand paid competition and organic rankings for search queries, allowing for the leverage of savings from brand campaigns. The use of this bespoke tool led to a staggering 31% reduction in overall media spend.

Our project ultimately positioned Motorpoint at the forefront of the automotive car retail sector, safeguarding their future nationally.

Our exceptional work for Motorpoint has already received national recognition. We won Best Use of Data and Insights at the Prolific North Marketing Awards last year, and were also finalists in the Best Large Budget Campaign of the Year category.
